New Shops, homes on tap at The Market Place

The Market Place is undergoing a significant reinvestment to create a newly imagined, half-acre-plus, community lawn and plaza area that’s scheduled to be open next summer. The new plaza will feature pop-up shops and other retail and culinary experiences, as well as a holiday tree to welcome special seasonal celebrations.

The design reflects several years of community input and master planning, as Irvine Company engaged with residents and shoppers to understand how best to create new gathering spaces at The Market Place.

A new apartment-home community, designed to meet the needs of young professionals who work at nearby medical and office campuses, is also under construction adjacent to this new lawn and plaza area. The new community is anticipated to open later summer of 2025. 

REGAL IS OPEN

The Regal Edwards Market Place remains open and as popular as ever with movie lovers. Its eight screens will show top-rated movies and blockbusters all summer long. Throughout construction, parking will be available in the area between Regal and Taco Rosa and next to Texas de Brazil. 

PARKING AND ROADWAY CONSTRUCTION

Phase 1 (Currently underway) 

  • New parking spaces near Regal
  • Marketplace Drive extended from the food court to 24 Hour Fitness

Phase 2 (August 2024)

  • Parking added near Taco Rosa
  • Road improvements on Marketplace Drive behind the food court area
  • Demolition of the buildings in the food court 

Phase 3 (September 2024) 

  • Road improvements behind California Fish Grill and Islands

Completion (Summer 2025) 

  • New buildings in the food court
  • Restaurants and new lawn area reopen

Restaurant relocations and closures during construction 

  • Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has moved temporarily to the food court near Target. 
  • The Market Place is partnering with Corner Bakery to identify a new location. In the meantime, please visit its nearby location at Harvard Place Shopping Center.  
  • Blk Dot Coffee will close during construction. Please visit its nearby store at Irvine Spectrum Center. 
  • Pieology’s lease has expired, and it will permanently close The Market Place store. Please visit its nearby location at Irvine Spectrum Center.
  • Veggie Grill’s lease has expired, and it will permanently close its location at The Market Place.
